EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required. Eight years of directly related progressively responsible experience developing large scale facility designed are required. Must have experience developing projects from conception through implementation; must have excellent knowledge of all Transportation Design Codes including MUTCD, AASHTO. Knowledge of local city and county ordinances are a plus. Strong project management and leadership skills are desirable; must be able to review and interpret civil engineering design drawings and other drawings from other disciplines. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Working knowledge of the Civil Design software and latest version of Auto-Cad is preferred. Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia and or the ability to obtain Georgia registration by reciprocity within six months is required. Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Erosion and Sediment Control Level II Certificate is a plus.

SUMMARY
The Civil Engineer VI position serves as the lead engineer and is responsible for ensuring a safe, reliable infrastructure to MARTA patrons. The engineer is responsible for providing cost effective, safe, constructible, technical solutions to all planning and design projects, including future expansion and rehabilitation of existing facilities. The engineer in this position must have excellent knowledge of all Transportation Design Codes, storm water, erosion and sedimentation regulations, and Rail Industry Codes. Knowledge of local city and county ordinances are a plus. This position is responsible for the review of MARTA’s General Engineering Consultant designs, formulating MARTA’s Capital Improvement Plan, preparing design contract documents and specifications, providing design services during construction and supervision of other employees in performing these tasks. Based on the broad scope of work, the MARTA Civil Engineer VI job functions are categorized by the specialties listed below:
Civil Engineer VI - General: Project scope development, design, and direction of civil engineering projects such as site work, land development, utility infrastructure, storm water management, erosion & sediment control of MARTA facilities. This position is responsible for: development and preparation of civil engineering design drawings and specifications; reviewing and providing comments on contractor/consultant/developer prepared designs, shop drawings, and specifications. Serves as advisor for civil engineering design activities. Takes an active role in updating the MARTA system design criteria and standard drawings, policies and guide specifications. Serves as MARTA's technical representative in reviewing changes to these criteria and assures that approved changes to the criteria are incorporated into the documents; Represents the Manager of Civil & Structural Engineering and/or MARTA in meetings and conferences with governmental agencies, private developers and community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for the preparation of MARTA’s Civil Engineering projects to include system expansion, facility rehabilitation and track projects.
2. Takes a leading role and initiates drawings and specifications for civil related issues for new facilities construction and current facilities expansions, and retrofits. Provides technical support during construction to Construction Contracts.
3. Monitors the preparation of drawings and specifications and construction related activities of the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) on new facilities construction and existing facilities expansions, and retrofits. Reviews drawings and specifications for new facilities and retrofits of existing facilities that are prepared by other outside consultants.
4. Serves as MARTA's technical representative in reviewing changes to design criteria and assures that approved changes to the criteria are incorporated into design documents.
5. Must have excellent knowledge of all Transportation Design Codes. Knowledge of local city and county ordinances are a plus.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
