We are looking for Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologistto join the UK's leading ground engineering and geotechnical contractor. As Geotechnical Engineer you will be responsible for key deliverables, ensuring engineers working under you fulfil contracted duties to our clients. Working alongside and mentoring other staff in Strata, the candidate will provide regular feedback to each engineer and work in close collaboration with other disciplines to deliver the project requirements.

What you'll be doing

• Taking the lead for specific areas on high profile projects.
• Managing and supervising geotechnical investigations including soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing.
• Taking a proactive approach in the responsibility for the Health and Safety of the project ensuring all required documentation in place.
• Ensuring full communication across all management levels within the project.
• Attending regular meetings with the client to discuss and appraise the performance of contract.
• Providing technical input into the tender process and delivery of projects.
• Managing projects to ensure project KPIs and deliverables are met.
• Mentoring and targeting/facilitating the upskilling of junior engineers in the team.
• Delivery of geotechnical projects and reports with outline knowledge of UK design codes (including EC7 Part 1, and UK annexes), standards and specifications.
• Making geotechnical recommendations including, earthworks, retaining structures, slopes and outline design of foundations.
• Holding a basic understanding of UK legislation relating to ground contamination and developing awareness of how risks and liabilities will impact upon land ownership, planning and development would be an advantage.
• Planning, managing, supervising and interpreting ground investigations and laboratory test results.
• Conducting oneself in a way that reflect and promotes the Van Elle company values.

Who we're looking for

• Previous experience in managing medium and small ground investigation projects, experience of large projects is desirable.
• Personable with strong communication and relationship building capabilities.
• Experience in using Ground Investigation Data Management software such as Openground/Holebase/GINT. Experience in the use of other software would be advantageous including settlement analysis and slope stability and Microsoft applications.
• Knowledge of good practice in a variety of areas including earthworks, environmental assessment, remediation, coal workings, geotechnical aspects such as slope stability, foundation recommendations.
• Knowledge of the role of investigation supervisor or contractors responsible engineer.
• Working towards chartered status relevant to geotechnical engineering and/or environmental science.
• Ability to manage large amounts of data.
• Experience of working with GIS for GI management purposes - desirable.
• Experience of effectively managing own priorities and meeting deadlines, in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work flexibly to support the overall aims of the team and changing priorities
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Eligible to work and live in the UK.
• Flexibility to travel in the UK.
• A full valid driving licence
