Balmoral Tanks, a market leader in tank design and manufacturing, is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join our forward-thinking team in Thursnscoe, Rotherham. Key Responsibilities

As the Structural Engineer, you will be located at our purpose-built facility in Thurnscoe, Rotherham, reporting to the Engineering Manager. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for any structural issues and new product information including producing designs for new and modified company products. Furthermore, you will play a vital role in assisting other team members and driving continuous improvements within this department.

Key Duties

  • Validating these designs through trials, testing and field evaluations.
  • Assisting with the production trials of new products.
  • Resolving technical problems that occur in production.
  • Product development and continuous improvement.
  • Providing technical support for the sales and site services departments.
  • Familiarise him/herself with the company's products, processes and materials, and keep abreast of relevant developments in legislation and competitive products.
  • Carry out structural analysis work, including finite element analysis.
  • assist in all other engineering functions as required.


Key Accountabilities

  • Operate a safe working environment in line with company policies & procedures.
  • Maintaining records of personal development and training.
  • Review enquiry documentation.
  • Draft design briefs, search relevant legislation and standards, review existing designs.
  • Carry out structural analysis work, including finite element analysis.
  • Carry out Structural, mechanical and process design work.
  • Check and review design documents produced by others.
  • Draft test procedures; and installation, operation and maintenance instructions.
  • Liaise with certification authorities to obtain product approvals and endorsements.
  • Ensure that all design work is reviewed and approved.
  • Produce design reports in a well organised fashion and in accordance with the departmental procedures.
  • Contribute to the continuing improvement programme to reduce costs and raise quality.
  • Support, mentor and assist colleagues in the department.
  • Provide engineering support to production, sales and site services departments.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered Member highly advantageous.
  • 5+ years' structural analysis experience.
  • Appreciation of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Experience of designing steel and composite materials.
  • Experience of foundation design.
