    Location: Ames, Iowa
     
    Work Hours: Days M-F, flex available and telework available after a certain period of time. Occasional travel to workshops or conferences.
     
    Are you an experienced civil engineer looking for an opportunity to use your skills managing advanced projects?   How about an environment where teamwork, customer service and a positive attitude are valued?  Our Bridges & Structures Bureau (BSB) is looking to hire a full-time Bridge Engineer Specialist to be part of a team developing construction plans and managing projects for the state and national transportation systems in Iowa. 
     
    As a Bridge Engineer Specialist (Transportation Engineer Specialist), you’ll play a vital role by reviewing and coordinating a variety of consultant-prepared bridge and culvert plans for construction, to ensure compliance with Iowa DOT and AASHTO specifications.   You’ll have the distinct role of monitoring workflows as well as oversight and management of critical project documentation.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements:
    Licensed as a professional engineer. Must have, or prior to appointment, obtain an active Iowa professional engineering license through the Iowa Professional Licensing Bureau - Engineering and Land Surveying Examination Board. Individual must then maintain their professional license by meeting continuing education requirements and all other professional obligations required by the State of Iowa.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    1) All of the following (a and b):
    a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
    b. Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.
    2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
    a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
    b. One year of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering; and
    c. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.
    3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.

    Additional Qualification Requirements

    Prior to appointment, applicants must possess active licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
