The University of Maryland’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Structural Engineering. We are seeking applicants with expertise in one or more of the following focus areas: Conventional and advanced structural materials, including reinforced concrete structures, FRP composites, as well as high-performance, adaptive, self-healing, and hybrid materials; Constitutive models for evolving concrete and reinforcement materials; Sustainable materials, structures, and engineering practices applied to concrete; Additive manufacturing for civil infrastructure using concrete, reinforced concrete, or composites Evaluation and repair of deteriorated infrastructure. Candidates in other structures-related areas are also encouraged to apply. Demonstrated experimental research experience, including large-scale testing, is desirable.  

The successful candidate will teach structures-related courses as part of the appointment.  Candidate should be committed to high-quality teaching for a diverse student body. Ideal applicants will also have experience and/or demonstrated interest in community engagement, equity, and/or social justice in their research and/or teaching. The successful candidate is also expected to actively participate in service, both within the university and externally.

Minimum Qualifications: All applicants should have received or expect to receive their Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related areas prior to their employment.

Preferences: Candidates should have a potential for sustaining a vigorous externally-funded research program and a dynamic portfolio of graduate and undergraduate educational competencies. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, lead an active scholarly research program, integrate with current research activities within the department, collaborate across discipline boundaries, and obtain funding from competitive external funding agencies. In addition, candidates should be committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion in the field through research and teaching, and be engaged in activities to promote it.
