Position Title: Senior Structural Engineer / Team Leader
Location: Gyoury Self Partnership (St Albans) Office:
4b Parkway

Reports to: Partners - Nick Archer and Philip Luck
Purpose:
The purpose of the position is to:
Assist with the development of the Structural (and other) Engineering capability of Gyoury Self
Partnership in an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated manner.
Support the Partners and other Senior Engineers and Consultants in the briefing, tendering,
consultation, design, implementation and management processes for construction projects of
varying size and nature.
Perform other tasks as requested/directed.
Key Result Areas:
1. Technical
Plan and manage projects effectively and efficiently; to include scoping projects with
appropriate inputs, outputs, implementation activities, verification and technical review.
Undertake investigations, inspections and develop solutions to clients' problems by applying
appropriate analysis techniques.
Undertake and/or arrange appropriate technical review and verification of work.
Prepare designs, technical reports, presentations, specifications and contract documentation.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all relevant technical standards, legislation, codes of
practice and best practice in areas of competence.
2. Project Management
Act as Project Manager on projects, as assigned, ensuring that all deliverables meet clients'
expressed and, as far as practicable, implied needs and expectations.
Provide leadership to project teams, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within
budget and to the required quality to achieve the planned profit.
Manage projects, including proactive and timely reporting to clients, preparation of financial
information for billing and appropriate use of Gyoury Self accounting, record and quality
management systems.
Regularly communicate with, and seek feedback from, clients and project teams, reflecting on
the performance of one's self and the team and apply learning and improvement principles.
Commission and manage specialist services from internal and external sources.
Participate in workload/resource coordination meetings.
Coach project team members to maximise their capabilities and ensure successful project
outcomes.
3. Strategic and Business Development
Proactively manage clients, understanding their present and future needs, maintain regular
contact with these clients, ensuring they remain satisfied with our services.
Promote the technical services and capabilities of Gyoury Self Partnership and actively
undertake business development and marketing with the aim of creating income streams for
the wider team.
Prepare EOIs, tender submissions, fee proposals and estimates in response to client briefs.
Assist in strategic and business planning as requested/directed.
4. Personal Development
Be aware of and implement best practice for technical work, project management and client
management.
Actively contribute to the development of Gyoury Self Partnership capabilities.
Identify training needs for self and relevant staff.
Continually challenge and improve what you do and why.
Attempt to regularly learn something new in your field of expertise and apply it.
Participate in internal and external technical workshops and seminars as agreed.

Qualifications and Experience:
The person who undertakes the duties and responsibilities of this position is expected to have, or be
developing towards:
A proven track record in the application of Structural (and other) Engineering principles and
procedures.
Corporate membership of a relevant recognised professional organisation/body.
Experience in project and financial management of professional services.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, which will enable effective and efficient participation in, or
leadership of, project and business-wide teams.
Good computer skills with knowledge of relevant analysis and management tools and an ability
to learn and apply new tools.
An ability to cope with urgency, pressure of work and the assignment of work priorities.
A willingness to develop and apply skills outside of their core competency to assist other teams
and to achieve and enhance the overall business goals.
Ability to successfully market technical services and to develop and maintain excellent client
relationships.
An acceptance of the need to assist with all range of tasks and activities (including potentially
menial activities) to ensure the achievement of project and submission deadlines.
A willingness to be involved in national and international projects, sometime requiring travel
and periods away from home.
