 Essential Duties: Essential Duties

1. Review plans and specifications in accordance with engineering best practices for design and construction projects.
2. Provide CAD drafting and design research for County design projects and bidding.
3. Provide communication with the public on County projects and policies.
4. Prepare costs estimates for grant applications as part of funding procurement.
5. Review and issue permits within County ROW for utilities, highway access, and oversized/overweight vehicles.  
6. Assist with 5-year capital improvement plans.
7. Conduct traffic engineering studies and intersection vehicle counts for presentation to management.
8. Inspection of field work on County construction projects.
9. Participate in public meetings to provide information to public stakeholders.
10. Perform field work measurements and data gather as necessary for project development.
11. Review development site plans and Traffic Impact Analyses.
12. Establish PASER ratings for County Highways in accordance with WISLR.
13. Performs other duties, as required, at the direction of the Engineering Manager and Assistant Engineering Manager.

The Civil Engineer has functional supervisory responsibility for personnel assigned to an engineering field crew or design team.

Receives supervision from the Engineering Manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

• Continuous (67-100% of workday) sitting, use of far and near vision, and lifting small objects.
• Frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, talking, hearing, lifting objects weighing 1- 20 pounds, carrying objects weighing 1-20 pounds, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 1-20 pounds.
• Occasionally (1-33% of workday) stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, bending/twisting, reaching, lifting objects weighing 21-50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects weighing 21-50 pounds.
• Lifting over 51 pounds requires assistance.  Assistance means the use of levers, work machines, another person, etc.
