Company Description
Veda Associates is a design services provider specializing in civil and structural engineering. Our team of engineers, architects, and CAD technicians have a reputation for delivering challenging projects on time and within budget. We aim to collaborate with clients and end-users to integrate all considerations into our designs before finalizing construction drawings.
Key duties & Responsibilities
· To design Concrete, Steel, Masonry, and Timber structures by hand calculations and engineering software.
· Prepare conceptual designs that are practical, economic and buildable to client standards.
· Prepare detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of working drawings.
· To instruct and oversee the production of engineering drawings in accordance to the company CAD QA standards.
· Supervise the work of technicians within the department and potentially external supplier as appropriate to complete project activities.
· Project leader on small projects or deliver elements on larger projects.
· When acting as project leader monitor project progress and spend.
· Conduct visual and detail examinations of rail and civil assets and produce examination reports.
· Ensure that design work undertaken is carried out in accordance with company quality procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained.
· Prepare responses of design related queries during the design/construction phases to an amicable resolution.
· Undertake site visits and attend design meetings.
· Attend meetings independently to present their solutions to an audience of varied seniority, sector and background.
· Act as checker of calculations, reports and drawings for project team, other internal teams and external designers.
· Assist bid directors with fee proposals, and on smaller projects prepare design fees.
Person Specification
· Relevant degree qualification
· 5+ years of professional experience in the Civil Engineering Industry.
· Member of either the ICE or IStructE.
· Knowledge of Bridge Design to Eurocodes as well as BS5400 in essential.
· Knowledge of Bridge Assessments codes.
· Experience in using structural design and analysis software such as LUSAS, MIDAS, TEDDS, SCIA Engineer etc.
· Sufficient technical ability to work independently and develop own solutions.
· Ability to work independently and see tasks through to completion with minimal input.
· Rail consultancy background is preferable
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to generate and technically review reports.
· To be positive, articulate, resilient.
· Have confidence to work under pressure with the ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
· Must hold a clean UK Drivers licence.
Salary Range £42,000 - £58,000
