ABOUT THIS POSITION

The City of Phoenix Aviation Department operates the Phoenix Airport System which consists of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), Phoenix Deer Valley Airport, and Phoenix Goodyear Airport. Over 50 million passengers traveled through PHX in 2024. It is one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city and has an economic impact of $44.3 billion annually.

The Aviation Department has a vacancy for an Airport Planning Manager position. This position oversees airport planning for the City of Phoenix Aviation Department Planning & Environmental Division. This is a senior-level position in the organization and oversees planners and consultants engaged in current and advanced planning activities, including master plan updates, planning studies, land use compatibility reviews, and coordinating airport development with a variety of stakeholders. Strong candidates will have a background in airport development, urban and transportation planning, or civil engineering.

The essential duties of this position include:

  • Assisting with the management of state and federal grant programs.
  • Developing project budgets, schedules, and cost estimate analyses.
  • Supervising planning staff and coordinating the work of planning consultants.
  • Maintaining knowledge of current Federal Aviation Administration and industry planning requirements and trends.
  • Communicating effectively in written, graphical, and verbal formats, with a diverse stakeholder group, regarding highly technical and often sensitive information.
  • Managing airport planning studies, airport layout plan updates and specialized studies that include airfield development, transportation, general aviation, airspace, facilities, and land use.

SALARY

Hiring Range: $88,691 to $118,872 annually.
