Staff Geotechnical Engineer 3

Springfield, Missouri

 

DutiesWithin GeoEngineers’ Pipelines Business Unit, perform geotechnical engineering activities in support of projects for the design and construction of utilities.  Coordinate the observation of field explorations and construction projects, ensuring that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines. Assist with training entry-level engineers and Field Technicians.  Complete detailed, accurate field reports.  Support project management tasks, such as budget planning, general review of field reports, and proposal development.  Manage small projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer or geologist, as required.  Gather field data and field samples, including soil, groundwater and/or surface water.  Coordinate samples for testing.  Perform engineering analyses and calculations under the supervision of licensed engineer.  Develop moderately complex conceptual models (numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, etc.).  Complete moderately complex spatial analyses (e.g. contours, clipping, buffering). Assist with the generation of technical reports; complete portions of technical reports, including the generation of figures and tables.  Domestic travel to project sites may be required between 30% and 50% of the time.

 

Minimum RequirementsApplicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 1 year of experience as Research/Teaching Assistant, Civil Engineering Intern, or related geotechnical/civil engineering occupation. Experience must include 6 months of experience working with MathCAD, ArcGIS, GeoStudio Suite, FLAC, MODFLOW, Civil 3d, AutoCAD, HEC-RAS or other software related to the discipline of civil engineering.  Additional requirements include:

 

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
  • Completion of at least 2 academic years of graduate-level (Masters or Doctorate) coursework. Coursework must include the following topics:  soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, lateral earth pressures, statistics and probability, soil dynamics.

 

All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently. Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees.
