Water Pumping Plants Superintendent (SR-28)
Plans, programs, directs, and coordinates overall water pumping system operations activities; analyzes, and develops current and long range planning and budgetary requirements; establishes policies and procedures for the installation, repair, modification, maintenance, testing, and operation of electrical pumping plants, booster pumping stations, hydraulic turbine pumping units, water treatment and chlorinating stations, filter plants, aerators, tunnel gravity systems, reservoirs, and appurtenant equipment; works closely with professional engineers and analysts and directs a computerized control center operation to regulate pumping, water pressure and reservoir levels under normal and emergency conditions; establishes administrative policies and procedures for the operation and manning of the department’s after-hours headquarters; plans and directs a preventive maintenance program for electrical and mechanical equipment, plants and other facilities to achieve optimum operating efficiency and to correct faults before they develop into major repair items or problems; consults with engineers in reviewing, analyzing and interpreting plans, designs and specifications for new pumping plants or alterations to existing facilities to determine dependability, adequacy and feasibility of structure and equipment from a technical and operational standpoint; develops technical specifications for and reviews and approves bid submittals for new and replacement equipment; sets up and directs in-service training, apprenticeship and safety programs; responsible for determining the procurement and storage requirements of equipment, parts, materials and supplies; prepares, reviews and submits reports and budget requests; participates in the hiring and initiation of personnel actions involving employees in the plant operations branch.
Board of Water Supply (Water System Operations): As the administrative head of the Plant Operations Branch at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply this position has overall responsibility for the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of all mechanical and electrical equipment in the island-wide pumping, chlorinating and treatment plants, shops, offices and other buildings, water distribution structures and yards of the water systems on the island of Oahu; participates in long range planning and budgeting to meet future operational needs; and performs other related duties as required. There is currently one vacancy.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college of university with a bachelor's degree in business or public administration, engineering or a related field.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Three years of responsible supervisory or program experience relating to the design, installation, operation and/or maintenance of major pumping plants or similar facilities and systems.
License Requirements: Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3) prior to appointment.
