This position will initially provide support and assistance to Senior Project Managers in delivering consultant designed transportation projects. This position will then focus on either performing design and project management work for in-house designed projects, or provide support and assistance in the City’s Bridge and Pavement Preservation programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management for Consultant Designed Projects:

  • Assist Senior Project Managers in the delivery of CIP Projects. This includes provide support in coordinating project issues with project team members, other business units and City departments, outside agencies, and franchise utilities.
  • Provide assistance in reviewing and coordinating reviews of work done by consultants.
  • Provide support in obtaining project permits, property rights acquisition, and public outreach activities.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule of assigned projects.  Manage consultant agreements, monitors consultant’s progress and expenditures.
  • Provide design engineering support for consultant designed projects in construction.

In-House Designed Projects:

  • Perform design work on roadway, bikeway/walkway, paving, and intersection improvement projects.   This includes developing designs for roadways, storm water, Natural Drainage Practices, earthwork, non-structural retaining walls, traffic signals, illumination, minor landscaping and urban design features
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction contract bid documents and addenda
  • Manages scope, budget, and schedule of assigned projects
  • Lead the project coordination between project team members, other City departments, and outside agencies
  • Coordinate with the Real Properties Division during the acquisition of property rights for assigned projects
  • Obtain environmental and construction permits for assigned projects
  • Provide design engineering support for projects in construction
  • Develop conceptual designs, project scoping, planning level cost estimates for future projects.
  • Participate in the public involvement process of assigned projects.  This includes communicating with property owners, home-owner associations, and making public presentations
  • Manage consultant agreements, monitors consultant’s progress and expenditures, and provides technical reviews of consultant’s deliverables

Bridge and Pavement Preservation Programs:

  • Assist with updating and maintaining the City’s bridge files, pavement management system, and curb ramp inventory. 
  • Participate in the Transportation Department’s ADA committee. Work with other committee members to develop design guidance documents and ADA-related best practices.


  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or closely related fields.
  • Two or more years of professional related experience in transportation or traffic engineering.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
