Position may be filled as either Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer, Engineering Specialist 4 OR Engineering Specialist 3, depending on applicant experience and qualifications.


The candidate will be part of a team that supports operations & maintenance of the District’s infrastructure, namely water control structures and pump stations. Responsibility includes delivering engineering services and decisions that contribute to the success of the District’s various strategic programs, and this position involves both office and field work.


This position is an engineering role in the District’s Infrastructure Management Section, under the Engineering & Construction Bureau, and specific duties of the candidate will include:


-    Supporting multi-disciplinary engineering inspections;

-    Identifying and developing the scope and justification for capital projects;

-    Providing engineering support in the field by identifying & troubleshooting issues, determining recommendations, and assisting in timely solutions;

-    Handling small projects by developing scopes of work, coordinating with Procurement,

     Budget and Project Controls, and serving as the project manager and technical support;

-    Documenting issues and resolutions and preparing occasional presentations.


* State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) License is required depending on position.   

   Or, if PE from another state must become licensed by endorsement in Florida within six months from date of hire.

Position may be filled as either Senior Scientist, Staff Engineer, Scientist 4 OR Engineering Specialist 4.


Professional Engineer/Scientist position that provides technical services and makes decisions for a work unit that supports the success of several of the District's strategic programs and major projects of moderate scope with complex features.


Performs work that requires application of conventional hydraulics and hydrologic practices but may also include a variety of complex features requiring proper use of design standards; selecting suitable materials; and, difficult coordination. Assignments require a broad knowledge of hydraulic and/or hydrologic subjects within the discipline to effectively resolve technical issues and complete assignments. Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall or key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Receives direction from supervisor for unusual problems and developments, and work product is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.

ENGINEER PRINCIPAL  (Multiple Positions Available)


Seasoned Professional Engineer that serves as the second highest level technical expert for a resource area and is responsible for making engineering decisions and recommendations that directly influences the success of one or more of the District’s strategic programs. Engineering decisions directly impact the District’s industry reputation, regulatory status and financial interests. This job level may not be used in every department throughout the District.  This position is to support the management of the Operations and Maintenance Capital Program and Restoration Program projects. The level of expertise required includes knowledge of new structure construction, canals, levees, above-ground reservoirs, and telemetry tower construction.


Based on extensive experience and accountability for diverse, complex and high-risk projects/assignments, the incumbent is in a position to significantly influence internal and external stakeholders for one or more the District’s strategic programs. For example, the incumbent presents analysis, recommendations and status information to the District Management Teams. Incumbent may also be required to respond, explain, and defend discipline related projects and initiatives to Federal, state and local government agencies and venues, as well as various media groups. Incumbent may represent the District at national and international seminars, conferences and taskforces.
