The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is seeking three project engineers: two in the capital group and one in the development group.  These positions will be filled as either Engineer I or Engineer II, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidates.

The Engineering Division is a relatively small group of 20 staff who work closely together to support planning and project delivery for multi-modal transportation and utility projects, providing high-quality customer service for the community.

The capital group is presently working on a host of projects that range from sustainable transportation planning aimed at reducing the Island’s carbon emissions by 90% in the next 20 years, to large-scale utility upgrades such as the replacement of the City’s water tank reservoir to improve the Winslow water system pressures and resiliency.  The ideal candidate is an engineer who is comfortable communicating with various stakeholders, supporting their individual projects and the team as a whole, and willing to be flexible and nimble in their daily tasks.

The development group supports the review, issuance, and construction of permits for private development throughout the Island.  The division is seeking candidates who value responsive customer service and enjoy working on all aspects of engineering project review (traffic, utilities, stormwater, etc,) for a range of developments that include single-family residences, cutting edge compact urban developments and commercial projects.

These project engineer positions offer field opportunities to observe, inspect and direct projects under construction, and learn from the Department’s experienced team of operations, maintenance, engineering and other technical staff.

The City offers a competitive salary and benefits package, opportunities for a hybrid office/remote work schedule, and a “learning organization” environment that values and practices mentorship, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
