Assistant Engineer III
Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional field and office engineering work, which includes management and plan review of developer projects, and assisting engineers with District projects. This incumbent will work with developers, contractors and representatives of other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development and project review; provide assistance to engineering staff and other District staff; mentor and support Assistant Engineers perform field inspections; provide assistance with utility locates; performs related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Senior Engineer. No direct supervision of staff is exercised. May exercise technical and functional direction over assigned staff.
This is the journey-level class of the engineering series. Incumbents fully competent to perform technical engineering calculations, plan checking work, report writing, and respond to utility locate requests. Positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances. This class is responsible for initiating communications and providing reliable information to engineering and construction management personnel for a range of duties including reporting, and reviewing the work of design consultants and contractors to ensure that projects are completed in conformance with Rules, Regulations, Standards and Specifications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field. Four (4) years of responsible engineering and project management experience in an organization similar to the District. Experience working with an elected Board or Commission is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification.
