The Naturalist I (Education Specialist) is a temporary full-time grant funded position at the Watershed Stewardship Center at West Creek Reservation. The Naturalist I (Education Specialist) plans, develops and implements Outdoor Experiences programs to increase the public's environmental awareness and concern for the conservation, preservation, and management of local watersheds and their plant and animal communities through interpretation education, and stewardship activities.
Naturalist I is a temporary position that is grant funded by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and is currently funded through 12/31/2019.
•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in watershed/coastal management, natural resources, biology (aquatic/field biology emphasis), environmental education, environmental studies, natural history/cultural interpretation, or equivalent combination of education and experience. •Minimum of three years of experience in informal science education, classroom education, field exposure including wildlife contact. Watershed experience preferable. •Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio. Must be certified as an interpretive guide ("Certified Interpretive Guide -- CIG" by the National Association of Interpretation, or obtain certification during employment. •Knowledge of state and local regulations as they relate to environmental management, urban design, engineering, and/or policy. •Enjoys interacting with and serving the public. •Ability to organize and effectively manage a diversity of program services •Ability to convey and instill a solid philosophy of outdoor education and recreation to employees and park visitors •Clear understanding of the relationship between people and the environment. •Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public. •Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings. •Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. •Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations. •Ability to work cooperatively with others. •Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs. •Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information. •Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative. •Must be available to work a variable schedule, including weekdays, weekends, occasional evenings and holidays. •Must be non-smoker/tobacco user.
