The City of San Jose seeks a Deputy Director in the Public Works Department to oversee development review and engineering services. Known as the “Capital of Silicon Valley,” the City plays a vital economic and cultural role anchoring the world’s leading region of innovation. Public Works is one of the City’s largest departments with 573 staff and a budget of $110 million.
The Deputy Director will advise the Director in policy matters, interface with elected officials, and work closely with key stakeholders including developers and the public. The ideal candidate will be able to balance the demands of quality, speed, and cost with regard to the development review process. An in-depth knowledge of municipal codes and engineering is highly desirable.
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, or related field; and six (6) years of increasingly responsible senior level experience in a similar professional environment.
