The ideal candidate will leverage their background knowledge of physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science in the development of analytical and scientific instrumentation based on infrared and other gas sensing technologies. The selected candidate will also be responsible for transitioning technology from development into manufacturing.
Work with a small team of innovative scientists and engineers to develop new sensors and sensor systems.
Help specify performance and then test new instruments and sensors as they are developed. This will include designing and building prototypes as well as qualifying pre-production instruments.
Documentation of sensor design, test, and manufacturing requirements.
Stay current with advances in relevant gas sensing technologies and assess whether there is any potential for application of these technologies to new products for the Service Tools business line.
Participate in relevant trade and technical organizations such as SAE, AHRI, ASHRAE to stay aware of any changes to industry standards that pertain to Service Tools products. Participate in standard development committees as appropriate.
Candidates must possess a Masters Degree in Engineering or a physical science with an emphasis on Electrical Engineering or Physics preferred. Advanced degree (PhD) in designated fields with emphasis on laboratory work preferred. Recent graduates will need to provide a copy of their transcript as part of the interviewing and screening process.
A minimum of 3 years practical work experience in an instrumentation laboratory or design environment with electronics, bench-top test and measurement equipment, and/or scientific instrumentation.
A basic understanding of electronics is expected.
Practiced in the statistical evaluation of data using excel and other analysis software.
Must be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to travel up to 20%, including overseas.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good organizational skills and the ability to work well with others.
Previous experience with gas sensors, particularly infrared, electrochemical, and surface-reaction, is highly desirable
