This position is located in the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Operations Administration.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise and advice in the coordination, management, and oversight of multiple professional electrical engineering assignments. The incumbent oversees the work efforts of a ward based team involved in electrical engineering and related activities such as signals, signal analysis / design, and the street lighting and electrical design to ensure work products of high professional quality to enhance the quality of life of District residents and visitors.
Primary Job Duties:
Serves as an Electrical Engineer for the design, expansion, maintenance and replacement of the District of Columbia’s streetlights.
Devises new methodology the performance of construction, expansion, maintenance and replacement of the District of Columbia owned streetlight system.
Consults with high-ranking technical representatives from other District of Columbia agencies, Federal Agencies and utility companies. Translates results of meetings into revised procedures, criteria or specifications for coordinated results or to resolve problems.
Performs critical analysis and technical evaluation of the design, purchase installation and operation of District owned electrical streetlight system.
Through surveys, research and investigations, determines what needs to be done to ensure systems and facilities meet current and future mission requirements and to improve reliability, flexibility and maintainability; and lower energy consumption, of the streetlight system.
Is responsible for the management and administration of contracts related to the streetlight network, including invoice and change order management, project meeting coordination, and communication with all consultants and contractors.
Monitors construction projects for new construction, renovations and improvements to the streetlight system from start to finish, including the performance of pre-construction site surveys all the way to the completion of as-built drawings.
Develops preliminary planning designs to include descriptions of scope of work, quantitative criteria, detailed cost estimates and time schedules as needed. Reviews or develops the installation instructions for streetlight systems in the District of Columbia.

Education and Experience:
Individual must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and have at least five years of experience in a related field.
Licensures, Certifications and other requirements:
Individual must possess a professional engineer license and must be licensed in the District of Columbia at the time of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
This position has been designated as an emergency employee position under the provisions of District Personnel Manual, Chapter 12. As such, your services may be required in emergency situations to perform crucial duties, i.e., snow removal, debris removal, transportation, shelter operations, food distribution, and communication. These duties may be performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early.
The position has been deemed security-sensitive. Accordingly, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment checks (criminal background checks, consumer credit check, traffic record checks, if applicable) as a condition of employment, and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of your tenure.
Additional Salary Information: The compensation range for this position is $$92,093.00 - $118,670.00
