The City of Portland is seeking a Senior Engineering Associate- Traffic Specialty in the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT).
Senior Engineering Associates with a Traffic Specialty are responsible for performing intermediate to complex traffic engineering work involving the application of advanced technical engineering knowledge to the design and operation of the City's transportation system.
Duties may include: Designing and reviewing plans and specifications for temporary and permanent traffic control devices, transportation infrastructure and street lights Designing and reviewing electrical wiring for signalized intersections; managing construction or maintenance projects Performing traffic analysis and selecting traffic signal phasing and timing to maximize efficiency and safety of City's arterials for all modes of transportation; creating as-builts and records keeping. Investigating and resolving traffic safety and operations problems Reviewing and approving work zone traffic control plans Performing, reviewing and analyzing Traffic Impact Analysis and/or providing support for Transportation Development Review. Additionally, this position may oversee, coordinate, review the work of support staff, technical, and entry level engineering staff, and inspect field installations by contractors and city personnel. The Senior Engineering Associate works with a broad range of internal and external customers and is expected to deliver a high level of customer service and to carry out their individual responsibilities with initiative, independence and creativity while exercising sound professional problem-solving skills.
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position: Experience utilizing the fundamentals of traffic engineering principles, practices and procedures Experience utilizing the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Experience utilizing traffic analysis software and/or operating principles as applied to traffic control Experience interpreting and preparing traffic design engineering and/or street lighting designs and specifications Experience analyzing and modifying the design of streets, intersections and/or traffic control devices in order to reduce collisions and congestion Ability to analyze the effects on traffic conditions of proposed changes to the transportation system, such as capital improvement projects, development actions and construction Ability to interact effectively and to problem solve with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Applicant must also possess: An Engineer-In-Training Certification (passed State Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination) at time of hire A valid state drivers license at the time of hire.
