The Infrastructure Planning Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department develops long-term capital plans, policies, bylaws, and reviews development applications that guide the growth of the City in accordance with the Official Community Plan. This Division will help to guide the infrastructure investments outlined in the newly updated Transportation and Transit Master Plan, and achieve Council’s vision for the City “…to be the Hub of the Fraser Valley.” This Division will also help to shape the future of the City of Abbotsford as a builder of a community that will attract and retain people to live, work and play.
We are excited to be looking for a talented person to fill this key position in our Transportation team as the Senior Transportation Engineer, reporting to the Senior Transportation Manager.
As the Senior Transportation Engineer, you will provide expertise to support the design and development of major projects. You will be relied upon to develop leading edge initiatives and find pragmatic solutions to issues facing City infrastructure. You will provide support for developing the City’s Active Transportation Corridors, providing solutions for bicyclists and pedestrian facilities. You will review development applications and provide technical guidance to other departments, ensuring infrastructure is adequate to accommodate future growth, and prepare and present reports to Committees and Senior Management. Knowledge and experience using Traffic Modelling software such as Synchro/SimTraffic or Vissim, would be an asset.
As the successful candidate you will be:
Identifying, assessing and recommending or implementing solutions to traffic efficiency or safety problems to minimize the risk to roadway users and maximize the useful life of the road;
Designing or accepting the design of the traffic and safety aspects of roadway upgrade projects;
Planning for the acquisition of traffic and site data to be used to update traffic control systems, to assess traffic operational and highway safety problems and to predict future traffic flow patterns; and
Providing functional direction and mentoring to the Engineering team.
