Position Available: Interdisciplinary Engineers (Aerospace/Electrical/Mechanical) for Vehicle Recorders
Calling all Engineers! Interested in solving mysteries? Curious about the famous ‘black boxes’? Opening for experienced hands-on engineering jobs located in Washington D.C. at the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Work in a state-of-the-art laboratory extracting and analyzing data from recorders on aircraft, trains, ships and highway vehicles, as well as retrieving data, audio and video from personal electronic devices. Duties may include:
Serving as Group Chairperson of a team of experts conducting vehicle recorder investigations.
Recovering recorded information and preparing reports to achieve maximum use of information for accident prevention and to achieve NTSB objectives.
Providing engineering advice on vehicle recorders in one or more modes of transportation.
Assuring the technical quality and capability of the Division's laboratories and related systems.
Adapting to changing technology by developing new laboratory methods.
This position is located in the NTSB’s Office of Research & Engineering, Vehicle Recorder Division, which provides expertise in extracting and validating data from recording devices recovered from vehicles involved in transportation accidents and/or incidents.
The NTSB is an independent U.S. Federal agency responsible for investigating significant accidents in the various modes of transportation-aviation, railroad, highway, marine, and pipeline. The NTSB determines the probable cause of each accident investigated and issues safety recommendations to prevent future accidents.
Pay scale & grade: GS 11 - 13
Salary: $68,036 to $126,062 per year
