The “Geriomics” Program at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research is a small Genetics program with faculty from Harvard Medical School who also have appointments at the Broad Institute for MIT & Harvard. There are several current projects and grants providing opportunities for post-doctoral candidates. The first is a series of genome wide association studies of various musculoskeletal traits that will use the Framingham Study data or data from other sources such as the UK Biobank. The second is a newly funded grant using gut microbiome data from the Framingham Study to determine the role of gut microbiota on skeletal status. In collaboration with another large cohort study and the Harvard School of Public Health, this project will analyze 16S rRNA sequencing and whole metagenomes on thousands of samples along with rich skeletal phenotyping. In addition, the post-doctoral candidate will work with the research team and informatics group to implement analytical tools and manage genomics data using high performance computing clusters and other cloud based computing platforms.
The Post-doc will support the research team’s projects and will be able to carry out specific independent projects that (1) perform GWAS and functional bioinformatics follow up of significant GWAS loci, (2) set up statistical genetic pipelines to carry out analyses of gut microbiome 16S and metagenome data, (3) perform statistical genetic analyses of the gut microbiome data. In addition, the candidate will interact along with other post-docs, epidemiologists and genetic epidemiologists within the group as well as collaborating scientists from Harvard Medical School, Boston University, and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
PhD, ScD and/or MD in genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, quantitative genomics, bioinformatics or computational biology with experiences in human genetic research
Expertise in the statistical analyses of gut microbiome data
Experience in GWAS and NGS (WES/WGS) association studies
Familiarity and involvement in use of large scale omics data, such as ENCODE, Roadmap Epigenomics Project, GTEX, eQTL datasets, Hi-C and RNA-seq data etc
Familiarity in use of human genetic resources (browsers and datasets) such as 1,000G Project, UK10K, ESP Project, EXACT, UK Biobank, etc
Publication track record in peer-review journals
