The County Engineer will provide engineering guidance and administration for the construction of highway and related construction projects. Develop and maintain the annual Road and Bridge Plan. Manage the annual and biennial bridge inspection. Responsible for the design and permitting of County engineering projects, coordination with KDOT, and to assist maintenance as needed. Meet and confer with utility owners, general public and other agencies to coordinate their interest in county road and bridge projects. Complete field surveys, project designs and plan preparation for construction projects. This position is supervised by the County Administrator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None
MANAGEMENT REQUIREMENTS Responsible for the overall management of the County Engineering Office. Attend meetings as required in cooperation with the Road & Bridge Director and County Administrator to include monthly updates, staff meetings and requests for action.

Must be a Professional Engineer. Must be licensed by the State of Kansas, or obtain a Kansas license within the first six (6) months of employment.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate or an Engineer in Training (EIT). Three (3) years of experience as a Civil Engineer preferred.
Must have Local Public Authority Certification or obtain such certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
Management experience, preferably a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years in a responsible position is preferred.
Possess a strong working knowledge of road and bridge construction and maintenance methods and techniques.
Experience with CAD and various roadway design software programs.
Must have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under Dickinson County’s fleet insurance policy.
