The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) division within Land Use & Transportation (LUT) is currently seeking an experienced Principal Traffic Engineer for their Traffic Engineering section. This position reports directly to the County Engineer and is responsible for the workgroups that perform all aspects of traffic maintenance and analysis for Washington County, including the Oversight of the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program, Bicycle-Pedestrian Program, and the Traffic Operations Center (TOC). In addition to supervising and reviewing the work of the staff in traffic engineering, this position will make recommendations and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for engineering projects; and implement policies and procedures. Additionally, this role will participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for requests, and monitor and control expenditures. This position will also provide information to the public, investigate complaints and will recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and practical experience in Traffic Engineering and Operations, which includes experience with planning, as well as project and construction management. The individual in this role must be a self-starter with outstanding management skills, experience leading a group of diverse professionals, and should have the ability to set and carry out a clear vision for multiple workgroups.
Education and Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering, or closely related engineering field; AND
Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering which includes civil engineering theory, principals, and methods, and/or experience in municipal engineering design, construction, and contract management which includes a minimum of two (2) years lead or supervisory experience.
