Tenure -Track Position in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applicants for at least one tenure-track position at the rank of associate or assistant professor in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Responsibilities include teaching engineering courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research in engineering, developing externally funded research programs, and producing archival publications in leading scholarly journals. It is expected that the candidate will develop graduate courses in her/his area of research to complement the departmental growth. A PhD in mechanical or aerospace engineering or a related field is required at time of the appointment.
Primary consideration will be given to those with capabilities and interests in heat transfer. The department is actively growing its thermal science core. All outstanding candidates possessing a strong background in heat transfer relevant to mechanical and/or aerospace engineering will be considered as at least one position is anticipated.
The Tickle College of Engineering is undergoing a period of substantial growth in both physical infrastructure and research expenditures as it seeks to become a Top 25 ranked public institution. The college presently has seven departments with 186 faculty members, 3,393 undergraduates and 1,155 graduate students. The department currently has 40 tenured/tenure track faculty members and enrolls some 1,331 undergraduate and 182 graduate students. Research expenditures in the department exceed $15M per year. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at UTK and the surrounding region including University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), Oak Ridge National Lab, AEDC, AMDEC, and NASA-Marshall.
