The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU), is seeking applications for a full time, 9- or 12-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. This person will be involved in research, teaching, and service.
This position is on the MSU campus, located in Starkville, Mississippi. Area of Specialization: Areas of specialization in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, which may include but are not limited to precision agriculture sensors, controllers and instrumentation; aquaculture, Irrigation/Water resource management; controlled environment systems for plant/animal production; irrigation engineering, post-harvest technology, controllers, and sensors. Responsibilities: The incumbent will develop a nationally recognized, extramurally funded, scholarly research program that enhances productivity, profitability, resilience, and sustainability of plant and animal production systems. The incumbent will work as part of a multidisciplinary faculty team performing regionally and nationally relevant research, teaching, and outreach activities. Service to the Department, College, University and to the Professional Society is expected from the faculty member.
Research Expectations: Research focus of the candidate should be in areas related to agricultural and biological systems engineering including: precision agriculture sensors, controllers and instrumentation; optimization of controlled environment system for plants/animal production; harvest/post-harvest handling, management, and storage; and/or irrigation engineering. The incumbent will work closely with faculty in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and other faculty across the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bagley College of Engineering. The incumbent will be expected to secure extramural funding to support research activities, publish in peer-reviewed or other appropriate professional research journals, make presentations at professional meetings, and actively participate in professional societies (membership, presentations, committee involvement, officer roles, etc.).
Teaching Expectations: The incumbent will be expected to support undergraduate and graduate student training and contribute to collaborative teaching. The successful candidate will teach 2-3 courses/year in their areas of expertise in support of the Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business, Biological Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering undergraduate programs. Additionally, the incumbent will develop a graduate course in their area of expertise.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (commensurate with qualifications and experience). Anticipated appointment would be approximately 60% Research and 40% Teaching.
Minimum Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Agricultural Engineering Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher learning is required. The acceptable candidate must have outstanding communication skills, ability to teach at undergraduate and graduate level classes offered by the department. The candidate is expected to have research experiences with one or more of the fields identified in the Areas of Specialization.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with an established teaching, research, and outreach record in agricultural and biological engineering curriculum particularly on biological systems, agricultural engineering technologies, and mechanical systems.
