The Associate Corrosion Control Specialist performs complex engineering studies; plans, coordinates and leads projects; and provides expertise and support to East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) work groups in implementing corrosion control methods to aqueduct and pipeline infrastructure and related facilities for a large municipal water supply.
Duties include:
Researching and reviewing industry literature, analyzing technical data, preparing and presenting plans and reports on alternative approaches and recommendations for implementing corrosion control mitigation measures to protect pipeline and related infrastructure.
Providing project management for corrosion control projects that include the development of plans, scopes, schedules, and budgets.
Directing assigned staff and consultants; preparing analyses and work products developed by project team members; coordinating communications with other work groups, client contacts and other agency representatives; monitoring budget and project schedule; and adjusting priorities, resources, work process, and task sequencing.
Providing consultation to and assisting other work groups in the research and evaluation of alternatives, environmental impact assessment, and characteristics of coating systems, coating materials, and specifications for corrosion control mechanisms to be used in EBMUD facilities.
Performing corrosion control design reviews for reservoir, pumping plant, and other major infrastructure improvement projects.
Designing, testing, and performing startup and adjustments for specialized cathodic protection systems for a wide variety of infrastructure and facilities; and designing complex recoating and deleading projects.
Acting as the EBMUD representative to other agencies regarding the operation, permitting, destruction, and/or removal of cathodic protection anode wells and other corrosion control systems; and ensuring that projects and final documents address EBMUD’s regulatory and other requirements.
The salary range is $10,150 per month increasing to $10,657, $11,190, $11,750 and $12,338 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

A bachelor’s degree in material science, metallurgy, or an ABET-accredited engineering curriculum, or a California Engineer-in-Training certificate.
A minimum of two years of civil or corrosion control engineering experience at the level of the EBMUD Assistant Engineer position or higher.
Possession of a valid CA driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Willingness to work overtime outside of regular work day/week, and engage in occasional moderate travel for aqueduct and pipeline inspections and consulting with other EBMUD staff.
