This job is located in the Baltimore District of the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Military Design Branch of the Engineering Division. The Military Design Branch is responsible for supervision and coordination of the District’s Military Master Planning program, the Military Design (in-house and AE) program, and the Interagency and International Services (IIS) program. In addition, the Branch provides technical support in the execution of projects for the District’s HTRW program, Civil Works program, and Operations and Maintenance program. The Branch also provides technical reach back assistance to forward deployed troops and civilians, as requested. The Branch consists of seven sections: Architecture & Interior Design, Cost Estimating and Specifications, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical, Site Development, and Design Management, and Master Planning. For this particular position, the responsibilities are as follows: - Mentors junior engineers in the application of appropriate problem solving methods or techniques.
- Serves as a lead structural engineer in the design of office buildings, warehouses, large structural steel hangers, building remodels and retrofits, or historic structures that utilize steel, concrete, masonry, or metal studs.
- Conducts quality checks on reports, request for proposals, calculations, drawings or specifications for A-E and in-house deliverables.
- Develops reports for field studies or building surveys on highly technical subjects for executive decision makers to make determinations.
