The Design Section Manager works under the direction of the Engineering Department Manager and is responsible for leading project managers and civil engineers in the design and management of site development, transportation, aviation, and transit projects. The Design Section Manager is also responsible for planning and establishing procedures and methods by which staff must abide when performing tasks. The person in this role also reviews production and financial reports on a regular basis and implements corrective actions, when necessary. Other duties include but are not limited to the following list:
Assist and/or lead initiatives to promote the progress of the organization in an effective manner
Lead design team and provide engineering design guidance to ensure efficient productivity of staff
Provide recommendations, analyze, report, and develop strategies to target the improvement in quantity as well as quality of projects/programs
Identify problems, provide alternatives, create choices and solutions for action
Analyze and assess project risks and report operational and production level issues to Engineering Department Manager.
Thoroughly review and approve project management plans.
Develop and maintain budgets and schedules
Maintain client relationships, manage client expectations, generate additional opportunities with clients and develop new clients
Assist Client Services through CRM reporting, proposal development, marketing and sales
Ensure all corporate and regulatory health and safety processes are followed
Supervise and monitor the overall performance of the employee resources in the section to achieve organizational goals and KPI’s
Identifying the best people for projects
Mentor and train staff to achieve the organizational and business goals, objectives and visions
Plan for compensations and rewards for employees, as well as approve PTO and expenses
Conduct periodic training, succession planning, employee selection, career development and performance reviews
Required Skills

Knowledge of project management principles; business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources
Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures and equipment to the design and construction of the built world
Knowledge of legal issues and safety standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Experience with computerized project management systems and ability to learn new computerized project management systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Analytical skills with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes
Experience managing time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing a variety of tasks, assignments, projects, and reports, working with attention to details
Ability to prioritize competing demands and achieve successful results
Experience in directing and coordinating the activities of an engineering team and subconsultants
Previous experience with design and delivery of large facilities projects and/or large linear projects such as water distribution systems, sewer collection systems, storm water conveyance systems, or roadways
Knowledge of various engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation
Required Experience
A bachelor's degree in Engineering,
A master's degree is a plus, but not a requirement
Professional Engineering Licensure in GA is preferred and willingness to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure in AL and FL is a plus
Project Management Certification is a plus, but not a requirement
A strong background in developing and permitting construction documents for land development is a plus, but not a requirement
