To continue this trend of excellence, we are recruiting for a Civil Engineer III to manage the design and construction of projects including but not limited to water and wastewater systems, treatment facilities, system rehabilitation projects, and inflow and infiltration; review and prepare plans, specifications, and contracts; and provide technical support to the Public Works Department.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management - Manage the design and construction of projects primarily involving areas of water and wastewater systems, treatment facilities and rehabilitation projects, including inflow and infiltration (I&I) reduction. Duties may also include streets, stormwater and building projects.
Review and approve plans and specifications, designs, technical documents and reports ensuring compliance with city technical specifications, design guidelines and applicable codes and ordinances while exercising professional judgment.
Provide assistance to construction inspectors in the interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during construction; ensure compliance with original plans and specifications; and approve construction changes.
Assist in the preparation and supervision of consultant and contractor services contracts including the selection process.
Financial Stewardship - Maintain awareness of progress and budget on assigned projects; ensure compliance to approved budget and designated time schedules for project completion.
Leadership Investment and Expanded Learning Possibilities- Participate in a variety of special engineering studies; prepare technical reports; and prepare hydraulic calculations or perform modeling for water distribution and sewer collection systems.

Experience and Education GuidelinesAny combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Experience: Five to eight years of engineering and project management experience, preferably with experience in a municipality or Public Works department. A master's degree may be substituted for experience. Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. Licenses and Certificates: Must be a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas, or able to obtain a professional engineering license in the State of Kansas within 6 months of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver's License
