The Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch and the Neighbourhood Renewal Program are the building blocks of a great city, and invest in reconstructing neighbourhoods to enhance their livability and longevity.
The mandate of the Branch is to provide a fully integrated and holistic approach to planning, designing and delivery of roads, street lighting, open spaces, and any other neighbourhood amenities.
As a member of the Neighbourhoods Planning & Design team in the Building Great Neighbourhoods Branch, you will be responsible for the project management activities for the planning and design of transportation and parks projects through the development of concept and preliminary designs; including roads, alleys, transit and active transportation projects, as well as playgrounds, park improvements, and community-led open space projects.

The Engineering Project Manager role in Neighbourhoods Planning and Design is your opportunity to apply your project management skills, technical knowledge and leadership ability to an exciting program of mature residential neighbourhoods projects that directly enhance the lives of Edmontonians. You will manage the development of your own projects and work as part of a larger project management team. Experience with neighbourhood-related issues and working collaboratively with community groups is an asset.
Working in an integrated business model, here are the key responsibilities of the Engineering ProjectManager position:
Project Management and Execution
Manage the planning and design for infrastructure projects including operational/strategic initiatives, resource and financial management
Define the project goals, objectives and planned deliverables in order to fulfill the requirements of the Project Owners and Project Sponsors
Manage, monitor and report project milestones through detailed plans and schedules, ensuring the project is on budget, on schedule, and within the defined scope and quality
Perform all activities related to thorough risk management for all projects
Document all project activities in accordance with the Project Management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements
Public and Stakeholder Management
Develop and steward relationships that support the success of the projects
Develop and implement robust public/stakeholder engagement processes and activities, working in collaboration with Communications & Engagement
Respond and/or manage responses to all project inquiries Chair and/or participate in project-related meetings, including liaison/steering committee meetings
Engineering
Apply technical expertise to anticipate, identify and resolve issues that may impact the project
Organizational Alignment and Continuous Improvement
Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of project management processes and practices
Operate with a high degree of influence and effectiveness, achieved through collaboration and maximizing the contribution of all stakeholders
Contribute to and uphold a positive public image and culture
Leadership
Lead multi-disciplinary teams consisting of consultants, business partners and stakeholders
Foster a culture of collaboration and networking among project team members, across the corporation and beyond
Mentor and coach team members in a manner that fosters a culture of growth, development and continuous improvement
Monitor team member engagement and implement action plans as necessary
Administrative
Document all project activities in accordance with the Project Management methodology, City policies, processes and procedures, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements
Manage the procurement and contract processes, including tender documents, review of proposals/bids, and make recommendations for acceptance
Guide and coordinate the work of consultants and contractors
Safety Management
Ensure the project abides by any applicable City of Edmonton Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines
In situations where contractors perform services on behalf of the City, be responsible for selecting the appropriate prime contractor management approach for the project
Develop the project level safety plan, implement and enforce for each project
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of Engineering such as Civil/Transportation Engineering or a related field of Engineering
Registered as a P.Eng with APEGA or with the Professional Engineering Association of another province/territory of Canada
4 years experience in engineering and project management
Strong technical skills in planning and design processes and standards related to civil/transportation engineering
Strong project management skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (PMBOK best practices)
Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects
Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
Experience developing and implementing public engagement processes
Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting
Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
Experience managing and working with external consultants
Ability and willingness to delegate and empower others
Working knowledge of relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures (OH&S, Environmental, Builders Lien Act, etc.)
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
