As a Structural Steel Technical Sales Representative, you will coordinate all sales and market development activities, while working with design professionals and specifiers to obtain specification as well as with steel fabricators and erectors to ensure proper installation of Simpson structural steel product offerings. The primary method to accomplish this will be through educational efforts and the creation and maintenance of quality relationships with customers and co-workers.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Conduct technical presentations for individuals, groups and professional associations involved in new construction and/or the upgrade of existing structural steel systems focusing on general technical knowledge as well as the advantages of specifying Simpson products. (30%)
Develop and maintain relationships with engineers, engineering firms, general contractors, steel fabricators and steel erectors within the region. Represent the company within appropriate industry associations. (30%)
Work individually and with team members to identify opportunities, understand competitive market conditions and industry trends. Assist in establishing growth goals and targets. (15%)
Provide in the office and on the job field support to steel fabricators and erectors on steel projects with Simpson specified structural steel solutions offerings. (15%)
Maintain CRM records (customer accounts, contacts, sales pipeline, activities, etc.). Coordinate with the inside sales support team to ensure a “No-Equal” customer experience. Participate in company and regional sales meetings and trainings. (10%)
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferred.
5 years of related structural steel industry experience.
3 years of related sales experience.
Construction knowledge: Practical working knowledge of common steel construction methods. Familiarity with Simpson products is a plus.
Public speaking and communication: Communicate verbally in an appropriate way for the audience he/she is speaking to. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, and other groups.
Problem solving: Ability to define problem, collect data, establish facts and make product recommendations
Accountability & Dependability: Ability to hold self and others accountable for measureable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results
Customer focus: Quickly and effectively, solve customer problems and maintain productive internal and external customer relationships. Readily readjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing customer needs. Recognize potentially adverse customer reactions and develop better alternatives.
Results focus and initiative: Ability to manage projects and tasks. Ability to display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.
Teamwork: Maintain a collaborative approach in dealing with other Simpson Strong-Tie employees. Demonstrate a genuine commitment to reach mutually beneficial solutions.
Driving record: Possess and maintain a driving record, which complies with company policy.
Travel: Ability to travel away from home with overnight stays.

This job requires 35% domestic travel.

This full-time, exempt position located in Southern California and provides services to the Southwestern U.S. region.
