ESA is expanding our hydrology and hydraulics capacity in the Central Valley. We’re looking for a seasoned staff member to lead, direct, and providesenior technical review on complex modeling work, working out of our Sacramento office or elsewhere in northern California.
This is a mid-level or higher opportunity in our team of Environmental Hydrology & Design professionals. The work supported by this position will primarily fall into planning and design for ecosystem restoration or multi-benefit flood projects and/or CEQA projects, working with an exceptional multi-discipline team.We are looking for a team player ready to step into a larger leadership role with a mid-size, 100% employee-owned, full-service firm.
Who You Are
Your experience includes hydrology, hydraulics andproject management for flood management and water resources projects of moderate to high complexity.You hold a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or a related field, and have a minimum of 10 years of experience directly related to hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for flood management and water resources projects. You are preferably a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California, or have the ability to obtain reciprocity in 2 years.
You have advanced knowledge of industry standard hydrologic and hydraulic analysis software (e.g. HEC RAS, TUFLOW, SRH, RMA HEC HMS, HSPF, SWMM etc.) and working knowledge of GIS applications. Familiarity with CAD (especially Civil 3D) and programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, and R is desired.
You possess superior written, verbal, and listening communication stills. You have the ability to organize and developtechnical documents and communicate technical findings to awiderange of audiences. You work effectively with multi-discipline teams, foster collaboration, and deliver project assignments. You are able to work both independently and as part of a team to support the successful completion of project-related work on time and within budget.
What You Will Do for ESA
Lead complex hydraulic analyses that support multi-benefit flood management and restoration projects in the Central Valley and across the West Coast.Work will include application of numerical models to support planning, design, and implementation of projects intended to reduce flood risk, enhance fish and wildlife habitat, and improve resiliency by allowing rivers and floodplains to function more naturally.
Apply industry standard software to analyze rainfall-runoff, 1D/2D fluvial hydraulics, sediment transport, ecological and water quality processes, and provide quality control/assurance for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling studies and work products. Validate, interpret, document and present results of modeling analyses. Apply or direct others in the application ofGIS, CAD and programming languages to analyze, communicate and apply model results.
Manage projects of moderate to high complexity. Demonstrate a clear understanding of project management principles and practices and be responsible for the overall project delivery process, includingpreparing scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for proposals and task orders.Coordinate and collaborate effectively with key team members, including ESA engineers, scientists, landscape architects and other specialists as well as subconsultants, clients and stakeholders.Supervise project teams, including ESA staff and subconsultants, and lead client and/or stakeholder meetings. Provide mentorship for junior staff.
Operate effectively in a fast-paced consulting environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities, projects, and deadlines.
