THE POSITION Reporting to the Deputy Chief Operations Officer, the Transportation Department Director is responsible for the successful operation of the Right of Way Coordination, Street, and Transportation Engineering Operations Divisions. The position will work closely with the Storm Water, Mobility, and other Department heads to ensure successful management and completion of all transportation and related projects to ensure City and community goals are met. The Director plays a critical role in City government and assumes a leadership position in enhancing the Transportation Department's focus on customer service, efficiency, contract management, responsiveness and innovation in a professional and collaborative manner. The Transportation Director represents the Department in dealing with various regional agencies, prepares and/or makes presentations before the Mayor and City Council, Council Committee and various civic, community, professional and business forums.

QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's Degree in Transportation, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, or Business Administration with extensive experience leading a large municipal public works department. • Ten (10) years of experience in transportation, planning, public works, engineering, or similar environments. • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in management with direct supervision of technical, professional, and field staff, including a union/represented workforce.
MANAGEMENT COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The salary for this position is $175,000-$200,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
The successful candidate will be eligible for participation in the City's Flexible Benefits Plan that offers several optional benefit plans or a taxable cash option; $50,000 in City-paid life insurance; paid annual leave accruing at 22 days per year for the 1st through the 15th year of service.
Retirement benefits for this unclassified position depend on the candidate's eligible status (new hire, rehire, etc.).
