 Engineering Internships 
 Construction Services manages contracts for the City&#8217;s capital construction projects to ensure compliance with the contract, plans, and specifications. Construction Services also performs surveys and inspection for all City capital improvement projects. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management. &#xa0; &#xa0; 
 Design Services is responsible for the overall planning and development of the City&#39;s arterial highways and the master planning and design of all arterial street, storm drain, and sewer improvements plans. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering.&#xa0; 
 Subdivisions/Development Services provides development-related services for private sector development and development by other public agencies or public utilities. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering or Construction Management.&#xa0; 
 Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning performs professional and technical level engineering work including plan review, development review, contract administration, and field surveys. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Traffic Engineering.&#xa0; 
 Traffic Management Center operates and maintains traffic signals, signal timing and phasing, changeable message signs, closed-circuit television cameras, traffic fiber optic network and other intelligent traffic system devices for commuter traffic, construction activities and special events. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.&#xa0;

 Essential Functions 
 &#xa0; 
 The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. 
 
 
 Perform a variety of entry-level administrative staff duties related to areas such as administrative regulations, policies, processes, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms, while learning the fundamental mission, structure, and operations associated with the assigned department. 
 Assist with traffic engineering studies such as field surveys, counts and delay studies. 
 Assist with signal timing and phasing, signal coordination plans and operate and maintain communications with field devices. 
 Participate in analytic studies by conducting routine research, identifying samples, and assembling and compiling data in well-defined areas related to systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms. 
 Apply basic statistical and management analysis techniques or, with detailed instructions, advanced statistical and management techniques in analyzing data. 
 Assist in writing instructions, procedures, guides, and manuals to describe and improve administrative, technological, and operational methods and systems. 
 Research problems, discrepancies, and respond to routine inquiries related to the business, technological, and operational activities of the assigned department. 
 Effectively utilizes the capabilities and functions of standard office software applications such as data management, spreadsheet, and word processing in completing assigned projects. 
 Modify plans in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD. 
 Prepare reports, presentations, operational documents, and correspondence containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content related to business, technological, and operational activities subject to review and editing by higher-level staff members. 
 Assist the public and provide exceptional customer service in person, on the phone, and via written communication. 
 May assist in updating web site contents and making suggestions on information layout. 
 May perform a wide variety of para-professional, technical, and clerical tasks during peak workload periods or in the absence of assigned staff.

 The Transportation Authority&#8217;s Policy and Programming Division leads the strategic planning and policy analysis associated with administration and oversight of the 30-year Prop K local half-cent sales tax Expenditure Plan. This includes programming and allocating funds to transportation projects, and monitoring delivery and providing oversight during project implementation. The Policy and Programming Division also administers the Transportation Fund for Clean Air, Prop AA Vehicle Registration Fee, Traffic Congestion Mitigation Tax (TNC Tax) and several federal, state, and regional transportation funding programs. This Division maintains the online grants portal which serves as a web-based information interface for grant recipients and the MyStreetSF website where the public can see their sales tax dollars at work. The Division also provides support to the Transportation Authority Board for the Neighborhood Program and participates in developing, tracking, and analyzing local, state, and federal transportation legislation and policy, including for Plan Bay Area and ConnectSF.
