								<description>Worthington, Minnesota,  &#xa0; 
 The City of Worthington is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant City Engineer.&#xa0; This is an exciting opportunity for an individual pursuing the rewarding challenges presented in municipal engineering services of a growing and thriving mid-sized city of 13,500. Worthington is southwest Minnesota&#8217;s commercial, industrial and agricultural regional center.&#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 In addition to the Assistant City Engineer, the Engineering Department includes the Director of Engineering and Public Works, two engineering technicians, a GIS/CAD technician, an assessment accountant and an administrative secretary with an administrative budget of $400,000.&#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 Worthington&#8217;s infrastructure includes: 
 
 82 miles of streets, 
 81 miles of water mains, 
 56 miles of sanitary sewers, 
 53 miles of storm sewer, 
 a 4.0 million (maximum) gallon per day waste water treatment facility, and 
 An airport with 5,500 foot and 4,200 crosswind runways. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 JBS has a swine processing facility in Worthington employing more than 2,000 locally.&#xa0; JBS is the world leader in providing meat protein including beef, pork, poultry and lamb.&#xa0; The Worthington facility processes 20,000 hogs a day and is currently constructing an 180,000 square foot addition.&#xa0;&#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 Worthington is home to beautiful Lake Okabena, a 750 acre recreation and fishing gem.&#xa0; Ten parks dot its shores with public access for boating, swimming, fishing, concerts and playgrounds.&#xa0; Biking and walking trails encircle the lake.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 Worthington Public Schools has a K-12 enrollment of 3,185.&#xa0; Facilities include K-4 Prairie Elementary, 5-8 Worthington Middle School, 9-12 Worthington High School, and the Area Learning Center.&#xa0; An intermediate grade school is currently under construction that will be home to grades 3-5 in the near future.&#xa0; Private grade schools include Worthington Christian (K-8) and St. Mary&#8217;s (K-6).&#xa0; Worthington is also home to Minnesota West Community and Technical College, a member of the Minnesota State College and University system.&#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 Worthington has two primary health care clinics; one owned and operated by the Sanford Health System and the other by the Avera Health System.&#xa0; We are also home to Worthington Sanford Health Hospital, a secondary care facility, and the Sanford Health Cancer Center. 
 &#xa0; 
 &#xa0; 
 A local option sales tax was initiated in January with Legislative authority to collect up to $25 million over the next 15 years.&#xa0; The revenue will be used to fund quality of life amenities.&#xa0; Projects currently underway include facility improvements in a number of parks, construction of an indoor turf field house, and expansion of the City&#8217;s outdoor aquatic center.&#xa0; Future projects include improvements to the ice arena, lake water quality improvements and expansion of Ehlers Park. 
 &#xa0; 
 Like many communities throughout Minnesota, Worthington has a housing shortage.&#xa0; The City has stepped forward and is currently developing a 50 acre subdivision that will accommodate approximately 98 single-family move-up and executive lots.&#xa0; Engineering work on a second subdivision is underway that will have 18 starter home lots.&#xa0; Renovation of the Historic Thompson Hotel building continues that will house 40 workforce apartments and the City recently signed a development agreement for the construction of a 40 unit upscale market rate apartment building on land currently owned by the City. 
 &#xa0; 
 The City recently completed construction of a five screen state of the art stadium seating movie theater.&#xa0; A movie theater was the most requested amenity brought forward by our residents during our State of the City listening sessions conducted two years ago.&#xa0; Unfortunately, the pandemic has delayed its opening due to the delay in the release of new films by the major studios.&#xa0; The opening is planned for the spring of 2021. 
 &#xa0;

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 
 Supervises and participates in preparation and compilation of base information for feasibility reports for various construction projects within the city. These include but are not limited to streets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water projects. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 
 Supervises and participates in preliminary and construction surveying the above type of projects using GPS and robotic total stationing position technology. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 
 Supervises and participates in layout work for the above types of projects. Supervises and participates in design calculations for determination of items such as the following: pavement section roadway profile, road alignment, drainage facility sizing, sanitary sewer sizing, watermain sizing, etc., which is completed under the direction and supervision of the Director of Engineering and Public Works.&#xa0; Prepares project construction cost estimates and permits.

 Prepares construction specifications and bid documents. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 
 Prepares written memos, emails and communicates with various departments, contractors, consultants, property owners and developers as needed.

 Prepares and administers solicitation of quotes for various construction projects. 
 
 &#xa0; 
 
 Supervises and participates in construction administration under the direction and supervision of the Director of Engineering and Public Works. This includes but is not limited to, construction staking, materials sampling and testing, preparation of partial and final payment forms, keeping of personal and job diaries, documentation of test results and payment quantities, and formulating summaries of the above. Assists in public notification and communication of department activities through mailings, news releases, electronic and social media.

 Assists the Director of Engineering and Public Works in the formulation of the Capital Improvement Budget, formulation of special assessments and the coordination with outside agencies, consultants and contractors on various projects.

 Provides assistance to other departments.
